When Kat Von D‘s line of cosmetics first appeared in Sephora stores, I was immediately attracted to the lovely packaging. You see, I’ll often buy things just because of the packaging or the cover (it’s the reason I now own a set of Twilight books, I’m embarrassed to admit). However, I’ve refrained from buying anything from her line because I wasn’t sure the bold colors were for me.

A few weeks ago, Sephora lowered the prices on Kat’s palettes from $34 to $24 – including the Memento Mori palette which I’d been eying. Of course, with such a price drop, I had to get one. Let’s have a look at the packaging:

The box unfolds to reveal a palette wrapped in black tissue with a pretty metallic sticker. I tried to save it when I unwrapped it because I’m a geek like that, but it ripped. Boo.

Here’s the front and back of the palette itself:

It’s a pretty, rubberized, white palette with a Day of the Dead sugar skull design printed with metallic aqua ink. On the back is a listing of the eye shadow colors and a list of ingredients.

Check the gorgeous colors in this palette!

The creme shadow is a navy blue, but as reported by some, I suspect that will dry out pretty quickly. Of course, that’s isn’t why I bought this palette. I love the aqua color of Peggy and the light purple of Solitude.

Swatches:

From left to right in indirect sunlight: True, Solitude, Meditation, Agatha Pink, Sugar Skull, Peggy, Hard Luck, Tijuana.

The shadows are very soft and easy to blend. They are nicely pigmented even without using a primer, but I tend to wear this with Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy.

Overall, I really like this palette and immediately went back to Sephora and bought the True Love palette, which I’ll be reviewing here at some point.
