Fabric Swatch(s):

I wanted to do a Medusa costume with a toga, but I spent a month making Cookie Monster and quite a bit of $$, so I was forced to use my own clothes and rig up some sort of snakes for my head. I sewed the snakes that day and tried to figure out how to attach them just before we left. I ended up braiding my hair into sections and then taking a pipe cleaner and a fabric snake and using rubber bands to tie them onto my head. It looked fairly cool, but it was hell getting them off that night…

I finally got the chance to do a proper Medusa costume (or at least, more toga-like). During the summer my friend Kali had a toga party, and so I decided I had to go as Medusa. I used the same fabric that I bought for the Death Eater costume (I have a huge roll of it now), and some gold cord. The toga was kind of a rush job, because I had limited time to make mine and my friend's (which also used this pattern, although she was more Athena-like). For the hair, this time I twisted up my own hair, and then wove little plastic snakes. I also found some cheap arm bands and body glitter at a party store. It was pretty neat. Unfortunately I forgot my camera at home, and there are very few pictures. :\

For my friends costume, I used white muslin for the toga (the theme of the day was "cheap") and found some bargain bin fabric for her drape. I used some gold bias tape all around her edges and the belt is wired ribbon and a button. I also used the same button to make her shoulder clip. I dug into my "bag o' ribbon" and pulled out some cording that went well, and used it for her hair.

For her husbands costume, we draped him in a gazillion yards of muslin and sent him off. Heh. I think he wore a tie, too (no idea. I just went with it)

Favorite part: none…I was pretty depressed with this costume. It wasn't up to my standards at all.

For the New and Improved Medusa, I loved the snakes. For my friend's costume, well, the whole thing. I thought I dressed her up fairly well, and I am pretty sure it was for under $20!

Least favorite part: taking the snakes off my head later that night…there was a lot of hair that came with it…

Same theme - taking the snakes and hair ties out of my hair that night.
