drowning in mail >
There are mailing lists, e-mail groups, and listservs for almost
every topic imaginable. Over the last few years, I have made many
friends through these lists and internet communities, some of whom
I am still in contact with. Below is a list of groups I am currently
subscribed to.
Don't
Kill Spike Club
Founded by Jamie Marsters. I was appointed a co-founder in July
2000. The group discusses the character of Spike of Buffy the
Vampire Slayer.
Spikeaholics
United
Founded by Luna & Noctiluca. Currently down to 86 members. When
I joined about two years ago, this was a high-traffic list, but
as season 5 premiered, people started dropping out and losing interest
as Spike was no long the character we loved.
Bringers
Originally founded by Solo84, the Bringers were a fan rights organization
that tried to help Buffy webmaster who were under attack
from Fox. They were later expanded to help other fandom sites, such
as Harry Potter. The list is currently experiencing a lull in activity.
I was also subscribed to several of the sub-lists including Ads,
Afterdark, Newsletter, and Writers.
Velvet
Chain
The update, news, and discussion list for the band, Velvet Chain.
The Diva herself posts whenever she has time in her busy schedule.
Many of the members were also frequent posters at The Bronze.
WolverineAndRogue
The original list for fans of Wolverine and Rogue, from X-Men the
Movie. After a large flame war, the list was shut down, but the
members joined other similar lists (see below).
WRBeta
The founders of WolverineAndRogue formed this list after the first
one was shut down. It was a bit more moderated than the first. Minimal
traffic.
LoganMarie
Another WR list with minimal traffic, usually in the form of fanfic
posts.
Aussie-Farscape
Founded by Australian fans of Farscape. Moderate traffic. Sezza
suggested I join the list, but it's a bit confusing as most of the
memebers are Aussies and many of the events they coordinate (like
Tascape) are half a world away. At one point Jonathan Hardy was
a member, posting in Rygel's personality.
Farscape
Anonymous
A group for thos hopelessly addicted to Farscape. A moderate traffic
list with some very quirky members.
Triumverate
A list for posting fanfic based on Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita
Blake series. Ihave this high-traffic list set to no-mail at
the moment.
Alias
Fanfiction
A list dedicated to fanfiction based on the new ABC show, Alias.
Currently set to no mail to keep my mailbox free. Moderate traffic.
Elfling
This list exists for scholarly study of the languages invented by
J. R. R. Tolkien. Several of the members have been highly influencial
in the Quenya community and are thus invaluable sources. This is
a high traffic list, wth April's message count reaching nearly 1450.
