slashy goodness >
slAsh - fan fiction concerning non-canonical
same-sex relationships. Therefore, Willow/Tara is not slash because
they are a canon couple. The term originated in the way pairings
are noted at the beginning of the fic, say a Spike and Angel slash
fic would be noted as S/A. Slash fics are a squick for a number
of people, so it is standard practice to note that the fic contains
slash content in the warning section of the fic's header, and ensure
that the appropriate age related rating is given.
Most people wouldn't think that I would read this type of writing.
Most people probably wouldn't admit that they even liked
this kind of writing. But those people are generally homophobic
freaks and I pay them no mind.
Where did it start? I think it was while I was still heavily involved
in the Buffy fandom that I was first exposed to slash - and
liked it. Spike/Angel(us) was pretty much the only slash fics I
read. I have even beta'd a few stories. I am not a fan of all slash;
it depends on the pairing. For instance, you will never convince
me that Potter!slash is appropriate. Gah. It's just... wrong.
Recently, I've been reading a bit of RPS - Real Person Slash. It's
not something I would normally read, as most of the pairings are
just odd, but Lord of the Rings slash is, I dunno, okay. Maybe it's
the writers or maybe it's just the fact that the guys are so touchy-feely
in public all on their own, but LOTR_RPS works.
