Fandom is a tricky thing. It sucks you in. Sucks the life right out of you. Don't let anyone tell you different. And what is fandom, you ask? That's a good question. Basically, "fandom" refers to the fans of TV shows, movies, and books. People in fandom join mailing lists, visit websites, make websites, read fic, chat, go to cons, and basically act all sorts of obsessed over fictional works.
Fans are usually labelled according to the fandom they are involved in.
Fans of the X-Files are known as XPhiles, Star Trek freaks
are known as Trekkers or Trekkies, fans of Farscape are called
Scapers, Xena watchers are called Xenites... and the list just
goes on and on.
I consider myself a fandom geek. Or a fangrrl. Whatever. That just means that I am obsessed with many fandoms, not just a single one. And you know what? I'm glad. I've met many friends through fandom involvement. So, go fandom geeks!
